Study Breaks & Self-Care: Managing Coursework and Holiday Stress

The Plan

1. Set Your Study Plans and Share Them

One of the easiest ways to avoid FOMO?

Tell your friends when you’re planning to study and when you’ll be free.

Something as simple as:

“I’m working 2–4pm, but I’m all yours after that.”

It stops last-minute invites from derailing your focus and means you won’t miss out on the good times. Everyone’s happy.

2. Take Real Breaks (Not Half Breaks)

A real break is anything that helps your brain switch gears:

a quick stretch, a walk, a snack, music — whatever resets you.

If you’re “breaking” by scrolling your phone while thinking about your essay… that doesn’t count. Your brain knows.

3. Plan Rest Just Like You Plan Work

Try the 50/10 approach: 50 minutes of studying, 10 minutes off.

And give yourself one chunk of time each day to properly unwind. It helps balance the mix of coursework stress + holiday energy coming at you from all sides.

Small Holiday Tasks Beat Sudden Holiday Panic

Instead of cramming everything into one day, spread the small stuff out: booking travel, buying gifts, packing, planning.

Five minutes today = less stress later.

4. Feeling Overloaded? Hit Pause.

When everything gets loud — deadlines, messages, plans, pressure — stop for one minute and breathe.

Then ask:

“What do I actually need to do today?”

Not everything is urgent. Promise.

5. The Aspire App Can Keep You On Track (Without Taking Over Your Brain)

If you like keeping life organised without overthinking it, the Aspire App can help you:

  • map out when you’ll study (and when you’ll be free!)
  • get reminders to take real breaks
  • keep holiday tasks from cluttering your mind
  • use quick wellbeing tools when stress spikes

It’s basically a tiny pocket-coach to help you stay balanced when the season gets busy.

And lastly.....

You don’t have to choose between getting your coursework done and enjoying some holiday fun but planning is key!

A a few planned study blocks, some honest communication with friends, and a bit of self-care, you can comfortably do both — without burning out or missing out.
